Academic

The ethos of learning in a university in the UK is to gain expertise from professors and specialists whilst fostering independent, critical thinking.

The nurturing of independent thinking under the guidance of experts creates a dynamic learning environment and prepares students for success in their chosen jobs.

The benefit of this style of dynamic, practical learning in the UK is immeasurable in terms of the level of confidence in your chosen field and preparation for the workplace.

UK degrees

In the UK it takes three years for a standard undergraduate degree, although some degrees such as medicine or vet science could take longer.  In Scotland all undergraduate degrees are typically 4 years.

Undergraduate degree choice

Single honours → focus on one subject area.

Sandwich degree → a 4-year degree due to an additional year of work placement, UK or overseas, to put into practice what you have learned and give you workplace experience.

Joint honours → studying 2 subject areas.

Foundation year → if you don´t meet the academic or English requirements of entry, or you don´t feel quite ready to start your degree, there are other pathways such as a foundation course or an English course prior to entry to the university. A foundation year acts as a bridge between your academic or language qualifications to the requirements of a degree course. It also acts as a preparation year to familiarise yourself with the UK and improve your English before starting your degree.
